More about Lowther
Having
been head-hunted for the
task, in 1981 Ian Lowther, in partnership with others, founded Lowthers of
Ipswich, a Loss Adjusting firm. That enterprise, originally known
as Lowther Oswald, traded for many years as Lowthers, after the abrupt
departure of Oswald. The company
continued trading successfully for several years, but Ian has had no
involvement with it since 1985. The company, originally incorporated
on 17th December 1981, was eventually dissolved via voluntary strike-off on
11th May 2010. At the height of Ian's
time with Lowthers there were five offices--in the City of London, Chelmsford,
Southend, Ipswich and Norwich.
But Ian was restless with the constraints of the
corporate managerial team and yearned for the life of an independent
professional expert and sole proprietor. In 1985 he left Lowther
Oswald, as it was then known, and founded Lowther Associates of Norwich,
specialising in construction and insurance claim investigations.
Brocklehursts purchased this company in 1987 and after a five-year
period trading as Brocklehurst Lowther, with Ian as
consultant practitioner, Ian's contract as a consultant came to an end.
The organisation then became subsumed in Crawfords--a
worldwide company of insurance claim investigators.
Then from 1992 Ian practised as an Insurance and
Construction arbitrator, gaining a particular interest in travel disputes.
Ian Lowther has served in several professional and
private voluntary posts. He has been a vice-president of the
Insurance Institute of Norwich; Treasurer and is a Past Chairman of the East
Anglia Branch of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators. Ian was a Member
of Council and various Council Committees of that Institute. For
some years Ian was Convenor of the Personal Insurance Arbitration Service of
the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators. In late 1999 Ian decided to
retire from all arbitral work, having adjudicated 473 arbitrations and
countless mediations in his professional career.
Quasi-professionally Ian Lowther is a Citizen and Arbitrator
of London.
He is also a Liveryman and was a Member of the Court of Assistants of the
Worshipful Company of Arbitrators for eight years. While in that post Ian
served on the Finance and Charities Committees.
